How to rasterize a layer?

okay so i am trying to do this thing from a tutorial..and it says to rasterize the layer.


so i added a new layer, and rasterize was grayed out and i couldnt click it


i also tried duplicating layer..but it was still grayed out.


so how do i do it?How to rasterize a layer?
You have to put something on the layer to rasterize it for example text or brush stroke anything you just gotta put something on the layer. Then you right click the layer and click ';Rasterize'; and voila.
