Do layers make your hair look thicker or thinner?

I've heard both things from different people. Does it depend on how it is layered?Do layers make your hair look thicker or thinner?
It really depends on how its layered.

For my hair type, though, it makes my hair look thicker because it gives it more body.Do layers make your hair look thicker or thinner?
As a general rule, layers help the hair have more volume, which in turn, makes the hair look thicker. This is because the pieces on top are cut shorter, which therefor does not way the hair down. However, there are ways to layer the hair with razors and special slide cutting techniques that take bulk out of hair, which can make the hair look thinner. Make sure that you communicate with your stylist which you are wanting to achieve so that they can use the correct technique. Hope that helps. =)
On longer layers, it can make your hair look more full, but it really depends on the way that your hairdresser cuts the pieces. Ask them to texturize the ends for an even fuller look-- if you want it to look thinner, ask them to razor the ends.
it definitely always makes your hair appear thinner.
Thinner as they are removing the bulk of the hair
thinner no matter what,

because your putting differed sized hair all over.
it depends on how it is layered.
