What are layer chickens?

what are the differences between broilers and layers? What are layer chickens?
Broilers are bred for meat (meaning they will have more meat on their bones). Layers are bred to be prolific layers. There are also dual purpose birds that people (me for instance) keep for both. What are layer chickens?
The difference lies in the basic role of a particular breed ,it's aim in life so to speak.Broilers are meat birds ,reared usually in large numbers on commercial farms for table purposes .Layers on the other hand are reared for producing eggs, they are breeds that are heavy egg layers,in farms the eggs produced are table eggs, meaning they are unfertilied, on the other hand eggs meant for raising chicks need to have roosters housed with the hens.

Backyard hens usually reared to lay fresh eggs for household use commonly fulfill both purposes, egg production as well as meat, these are called dual purpose breeds.
broilers are chickens that are bred especially for their meat, they are the bigger, hardier chickens, but layers are the ones that are bred for their particularly good egg laying ability
broilers are for meet layers are for laying eggs
