How do you put your hair up in a messy layered ponytail?

i purposly got my hair cut so that i would have a really cute ponytail cuz i dont really like to wear my hair down a whole lot. my hair is not a single length in any spot. layers everywhere, short n tall you get the point. but i put my hair up and it still looks too neat! :( i really want to do a messy layered pony tail. someone please tell me how!! :(How do you put your hair up in a messy layered ponytail?
put a part in the middle, then comb your fingers through and sweep your hair up and put the ponytail holder in, it will have pieces that did not get picked up which will make the messy look
